Session Bouncer
Drop in a Pro Tools PTX session or a screenshot of your tracks. Build clean track lists, then follow the steps below to print stems with the Stem Printer script.
Every track, and why
“Folders only” automatically keeps folder rows. Separator-style tracks are premarked as folders; adjust the Folder column if needed. Tick Keep to override. Select several rows at once: click a row, Shift-click to extend, drag across rows, or Ctrl/Cmd-click to add; then use the buttons that appear. Shift-click a Keep or Folder box to tick everything in between. Edit a name to rename it; your renames stay put when you change the rules above. Marked tracks wear a marked badge.

Stem export steps
This guide covers the separate Stem Printer script, stem_printer.py, which you run yourself on your own Mac. Nothing on this page runs Python or touches Pro Tools; Session Bouncer only builds the stem-name list in your browser.
- Mac only, and it needs Python 3. The script uses screen automation (PyAutoGUI) to click Solo buttons on screen, not Avid’s scripting SDK, so it isn’t tied to a specific Pro Tools version. Always do the test run first.
- While it runs, the script takes over your mouse and keyboard. Leave Pro Tools in front and don’t touch anything.
- To stop it, move the mouse to a screen corner (PyAutoGUI’s failsafe) or press Ctrl+C in Terminal.
The commands below use the filename prefix you type in box 5 at the top of the page.

One-timeGet the script and install PyAutoGUI
Save it in your Downloads folder, then open Terminal (Cmd+Space, type Terminal) and run:
-
One-timeLet Terminal control your Mac
In macOS System Settings, open Privacy & Security → Accessibility and switch on Terminal (or your terminal app). Restart Terminal afterwards. Approve any prompts to control Pro Tools or System Events.
-
One-timeSet up Bounce Mix
In Pro Tools, press Option+Cmd+B and set:
- Mix Source: your main output (for example, A MON L/R)
- File type: WAV (or AIFF), plus your bit depth and sample rate
- Offline ON
- Import After Bounce OFF
- File Destination: Session Folder. Pro Tools saves these bounces in the session’s
Bounced Filesfolder, which is the folder you’ll give the script during setup.
Click Bounce once or Cancel. Check that you have enough disk space for every stem.
-
Every sessionBuild and review your stem list
Load a PTX session, a session-info text file, or a screenshot, then review the imported names. Separator-style names such as
-drums-are treated as folder rows for this workflow; correct any Folder checkboxes that were misidentified.Turn on Folders only to automatically keep folder rows. Need a click stem too? With Folders only on, tick the Folder box on your click track’s row in the table so it’s kept; the click entry goes first, as
01-click-129when the tempo can be read from the track names, otherwise01-click. Edit any output names, then copy the line. -
Every sessionPrepare the session in Pro Tools
Open the correct session. Close the folders and shrink the track heights so every folder’s Solo (S) button is visible at once. Don’t scroll or move tracks afterwards, because the script saves screen coordinates.
Make sure nothing is soloed, then make a Timeline selection over the range you want to bounce.
-
Every sessionConfigure the script
Paste the comma-separated line you copied from Session Bouncer. For each name, hover over the matching Solo button in Pro Tools, then press Enter in Terminal without moving the pointer. When prompted, drag this session’s
Bounced Filesfolder from Finder into Terminal and press Enter. The script saves the names, coordinates, and output folder in
~/.stem_printer.json. Runsetupagain for a different session, or whenever the track layout or Solo-button positions change. -
Every sessionTest the first stem
Confirm the displayed list is for the correct song, then press Enter. The script waits five seconds before switching to Pro Tools. Check the first bounced file for the right content, start and end range, format, and filename before continuing.
-
Every sessionRun the full batch
The prefix goes on every output filename. Keep Pro Tools visible and unchanged while the script runs. It waits for each new WAV/AIFF file to stop growing before moving to the next stem.
Watch the first few bounces. If a wrong track solos, stop immediately (corner of the screen or Ctrl+C), fix the layout, and rerun setup.
